CITY INSTALLATION 7: DISASTER PREVENTION FOR ALL.
A sphere with ruptured surfaces situated near the port address the issue of disaster patterns in the world today. The interior contains disarrayed composition of panels that evoke explosive shattering movements. Numerous international examples of past mistakes and successes, preventable measures taken, initiatives and planning to reduce and prepare for disasters, are portrayed as photo-reportages and texts.

Rio+20 is an international conference sponsored by the United Nations to promote dialogue, debate, and commitment to a green economy as a means to achieve sustainable development and eradicate poverty in the world. From 20 22 June, 2012, Rio will witness the gathering of 50,000 people from 193 nations, including world leaders, and representatives from key sectors of civil society

Mona Kim collaborated with ORB to propose public installation concepts for its client Fundao Getulio Vargas which would encourage participation and interaction from the citizens of Rio during this high-profile international event.

7 site-specific installations in key points of the city were proposed to bring the conference to the city.
All installations were conceived around 1 consistent identity - a sphere - with 7 diverse approaches and treatments.

Each installation addressed contents specific to each of theme, using clever sustainable construction methods and materials (thanks to RaichdelRio Estudi d'Arquitectura), and integrating sensitive and meaningful interactions.
